MySpace Music launched their new look and playlist feature this morning, and considering I usually go with the Playlist.com route, I’m into it!
It just so happens to fit perfectly well with my current color scheme on my MySpace, too:
I, of course, had to play around with the new feature late last night/early this morning before I went to bed. I’m thinking I might change these on a weekly basis. We’ll see.
Anyway, my current 10 picks are:
1) Evolver – “Welcome to my World” – www.myspace.com/evolverlive
My buddy Keith (formerly of Bleed The Dream)’s latest band. I had seen him post about this one, but honestly, hadn’t found the time to sit down and check it out until the other day when he asked me to post a bulletin for them… and I must say, they’re quite good! I’m a bit of a sucker for piano, so I immediately fell in love with this song in particular.
2) innerpartysystem - “The Way We Move” – www.myspace.com/innerpartysystem
This band were on tour with Kill Hannah recently. I unfortunately missed most of their set, but they definitely caught my attention at the show.
3) ljungblut – “Rituals” – www.myspace.com/ljungblutofficial
Ah, good ol’ Kim Ljung (of Zeromancer) is back! Or perhaps he never left and I just fell out of the loop… I remember him working on this side project years ago, but had never heard this track. If anyone else remembers Zeromancer, you’ll be interested in this. If you have no idea what I am talking about, I suggest checking it out anyway.
4) Secret and Whisper – “XOXOXO” – www.myspace.com/secretandwhisper
I had never heard of this band before until recently when my friend Charles had it blasting in his car one night. Sometimes they kind of remind me of Circa Survive, only better.
5) Earshot – “MisSunderstood” – www.myspace.com/earshot
They’re back! It’s been quite a while since we’ve heard anything new from these boys. Here is their latest single.
6) The Damage Manual – “I Am War Again”
One of my favorite underground industrial supergroups featuring the likes of the wonderful Martin Atkins (the lead author for the Tour:Smart book I contributed to, and well, all-around genius of the music industry), Chris Connelly, and Seibold (of Hate Dept.). Here is one of my favorite tracks.
7) ASHES dIVIDE – “The Stone” – www.myspace.com/ashesdivide
Billy Howerdel’s (from A Perfect Circle) band. He was the mastermind behind APC, so when I heard he had a new band, I was pretty stoked on it… and still am.
8 ) Five Finger Death Punch – “The Bleeding” – www.myspace.com/ffdp
Ever since I first met Zoltan and became familiar with his guitar skills, I’ve been a fan of it. I wasn’t exactly the biggest fan of one of his previous bands, so I’m glad to see him in something I have been able to sink my teeth into. Plus you’ve got former members of Motograter and W.A.S.P. Can you really get any better??? These metal boys are taking over the world, and I couldn’t be more proud.
9) In This Moment - “Forever” – www.myspace.com/inthismoment
I remember a couple years ago, I took a tour gig with the band Powerman 5000. Our tour openers were In This Moment. None of us had ever heard them or heard of them before… and the first day of tour, as they start their set, Maria begins with something slow. A little melodic. I remember thinking, “Please don’t be another Evanescence.” Fortunately, that thought was quickly crossed out as she began her screams… and damn, that girl can scream. I was mighty impressed by them, and they killed it on tour (and even landed them that deal with Century Media)! They’ve been doing great things ever since… and here is their latest single to check out.
10) Godhead – “Stay Back” – www.myspace.com/godhead
Whether you’re a fan of their music or not, these guys have been in it for the long haul, and who can’t honestly respect that? Here is a sample of one of the tracks from their upcoming album (that releases October 7th, by the way)… now if only they’ll put up the track I saw them play live recently that absolutely blew me away… ahem…
Anyway. Those are my current picks. Hope you enjoy!
