Alicia, Elissa, Karri, and myself went out there for a week to celebrate my birthday and just get away from a lot of the craziness we were all dealing with. Coincidentally, our friends Phily and Alex were out there at the same time, as well.

Like a lot of the other Hawaii vids, there are a lot of inside jokes that nobody else is going to get…. so you’re basically watching another video of us being goofs. But hey, if you’re a LOST fan, there’s some site footage in there for ya.

Anyway, fortunately I felt a lot better Saturday for my original plans. Karri and I kicked off with a late lunch/early dinner at one of our favorite little Thai spots in Los Angeles: Jarin. From there, we went grocery shopping for ingredients to make our own pumpkin pie and caramel apples (I will post the recipes after this post).

When we finally got back to her place, her husband Ian had made chili (which was quite delicious, might I add). We (and by “we” I mean Ian and Karri.. I was more of a cheerleader, ha) carved a Jack Skellington pumpkin and eventually made the pie and caramel.

In that mix, I had brought a pile of horror movies for the night that I believe was quite the Halloween selection. Feel free to use this next year… or this weekend as a late holiday treat:

The “End of Summer” camping trip a couple weekends ago went pretty well considering our plans got intruded on by “the man.” Karri and I have camped at Tajiguas Beach before, and everything was fine… but apparently in the past few years, others have caught on. We arrived with a large crew as it was, and by the time we got there, about 50 other people were camping there as well. Sure enough, the cops rolled through informing us that if we were still there when they returned at sunset, they were giving everyone tickets.

We enjoyed our time at the beach while we could, then as the sun was setting, moved camp to an actual legal camping spot, Lake Cachuma.

I was suddenly reminded of the midwest back from when I used to camp in the woods… only this time I didn’t have any problems with ticks! Even though it wasn’t the beach, we all still had a great time.

This past weekend was Rami Dearest‘s big “Sea Horse Sea Shell Sea Hell” party up in the hills. Talk about EPIC. The party was said to go from, and I quote, “Noon to ???” I did NOT start at Noon, but I did start pre-gaming at 2:30, then continued at the house at 4…. performance by his band, the Electrolightz right after sunset… and then I finally called it a night for myself as the party continued on until around 2 AM… or so.

The rest of my Labor Day weekend, I took full advantage of being able to be lazy and NOT WORK AT ALL (and if you know me, you know that almost NEVER happens). It was a fabulous little “vacation.”

I’ve been really good. Work has gotten even busier for me, and of course being a workaholic, I am enjoying every moment of it. Hopefully some things will follow through where I can actually finally publicly discuss them…. Keep your fingers crossed.

ThinkLA’s Gaming Breakfast (sponsored by GameSpot and WildTangent) was this morning. DeviantART invited a handful of my coworkers to the event, and since a couple of them couldn’t attend, I took their spot. I was actually pretty stoked about it, regardless of it starting at 8 AM. I enjoy listening to others’ approaches on marketing tactics, and it’s even better when it’s coming from marketing and sales reps from Xbox and Activision-Blizzard. It was nice to meet some of the people from Disney Online and Disney Interactive that I have been or will be corresponding with… Plus, being a member of deviantART for 6 years now, of course I was excited to be attending with some of the folk from deviantART, as well!

Life is good.

This has nothing to do with Gaming Breakfast, but it was still a fun image to find and thought I would share...

I have been looking forward to this day for quite some time. I have been itching to get myself back to Hawaii, but realistically (especially now that I am fulltime at my job), that most likely won’t be happening until my birthday next year. Since I can’t have Hawaii for the time being, I’ve been itching for any beach scenario, really. There’s nothing like digging my toes in the sand and finding my peace there while listening to ocean waves crash.

Karri decided we needed to return to this spot– we actually camped there together back in 2005 not too long after I first met her. I agreed. We started inviting a handful of our friends… and voila! We’ve got a killer group coming to our little camping adventure. I’m so excited that I am up a lot earlier than I really need to be… and can’t go back to sleep. Perhaps I’ll build a playlist on my ipod…

“It” being Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios. There is one in both Los Angeles and Orlando. Karri, her hubby, Elissa, and I all went together a couple of years ago on the actual holiday and had a blast! That year, that had something that catered to each of our (well, the girls anyway) fears: a Freddy Krueger maze for Karri, a Jason Vorhees maze for Elissa, and a Leatherface maze for me.

Of course, Elissa decided to make it a point to send every dude with a chainsaw after me that night: “Pssst… go get my friend! She’s terrified of chainsaws!”

We weren’t able to make it last year, but Karri and I have mentioned a few times to each other this year that we must make our return. This year’s roster is lookin’ pretty sweet, too.

The mazes this year include Saw, Halloween, My Bloody Valentine, and Chucky. From what I have read about the Saw maze, apparently as you go through, you are actually triggering parts of the infamous traps, which should be interesting to see…. especially the reverse bear trap. I hope there’s a lot of fake blood squirting everywhere for that one. Although My Bloody Valentine was terribly cheesy, I think it will be fun to run around in a “mine”… and by “fun” I mean “creepy.” I don’t expect any differences with this year’s Halloween house… and as for Chucky, well… I’ll be a little scared. Not gonna lie.

There is the Terror Tram again. This year, driven by Jigsaw’s messenger. Honestly, the terror tram a couple years ago wasn’t scary at all… so I hope they come through this year…. We went on the Mummy ride a couple years back. My first backwards rollercoaster. Kinda freaked out by it, but I’ll probably do it again this year.

A couple years back, the general grounds were filled with zombies. LOTS of zombies. Although there will still be some great zombie action this year, apparently there will also be an army of Jigsaw’s minions, pig-face masked and all…. WITH CHAINSAWS. (Elissa, I swear to god if you send them over to me again, I WILL find ways to get you back… again).
