Sappy Moments in Hawaii – May 2009

Here’s some more random video footage from May 2009’s Hawaii trip smushed into 10 minutes (and 29 seconds).
Alicia, Elissa, Karri, and myself went out there for a week to celebrate my birthday and just get away from a lot of the craziness we were all dealing with. Coincidentally, our friends Phily and Alex were out there at the same time, as well.
Like a lot of the other Hawaii vids, there are a lot of inside jokes that nobody else is going to get…. so you’re basically watching another video of us being goofs. But hey, [...]

Caramel Apples Recipes

This is the recipe we found from Simply Recipes for a dozen apples:
Ingredients:
- 1 1-pound box dark brown sugar
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature
- 1 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
- 2/3 cup dark corn syrup
- 1/3 cup pure maple syrup
- 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon robust-flavored (dark) molasses
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 12 sturdy lollipop sticks or chopsticks (we used wooden skewers)
- 12 medium apples
Directions:
1 ) Combine sugar, butter, condensed milk, corn syrup, maple syrup, vanilla, molasses and salt in a thick-bottomed 2 1/2 or 3 quart saucepan. Stir with a wooden spoon on medium-low heat until all the sugar dissolves. There should be no grittiness (sugar crystals) when you test by rubbing a little of the [...]

Pumpkin Pie Recipe

Karri and I took this from Paula Deen’s recipe with a few moderations of our own:
Ingredients:
- 1 (8 oz) package of cream cheese
- 2 cups of canned pumpkin, mashed
- 1 cup of sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon of salt

- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
- pre-made graham crust
- whipped cream for topping
Directions:
1 ) Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
2) For the filling: (in a large bowl) beat the cream cheese with a hand mixed beater (or if you don’t have one, you can do what we did and put it in a blender) to soften. Put in the [...]

The Ultimate Raw Fish

I always say that if I knew I was going to die the next day, I would try blowfish sushi (you know, the fish that you have a 50/50% chance of dying from eating). This is another one of those things that I would only try if I knew my world was ending the next day.

Domo comes to 7-Eleven!

Cuuuuute…

Convenience-store chain 7-Eleven will feature a Japanime character, Domo, in an in-store program launching this month. The character’s likeness — think Tribble (for those who remember Tribbles from “Star Trek”) with teeth and appendages — will appear on collectible Slurpee cups and straws, coffee cups, hot dog containers, candy dispensers and merchandise. The effort includes a Fuji Frost by Fanta flavor and a “Domo Attack!” energy drink.
Evan Brody, marketing manager for Slurpee and Big Gulp beverages tells Marketing Daily that the Domo program — intended to appeal to twenty-something and younger consumers — is the first promotion for 7-Eleven to be based on a character that doesn’t come from a major film, sports or entertainment property.
Domo and his hirsute pals [...]
