Hawaii 2010 – Day 6
So originally we had a plan to go visit and photograph the Byodo-In Temple, but apparently you need to pay for a permit for that… soooo… we decided to go back to Shark’s Cove and snorkel again during high tide instead.
My oh my! This time, with the high tides, came LOTS of fish… EVERYWHERE. We spent a lot of time swimming around and following them, sometimes just floating and allowing them to surround us. There were a couple of creepy moments where currents formed and we got caught in them, but thankfully they weren’t strong enough to be too dangerous.
Oh, and at another point in time, I looked up and see a looooong shape in the distance– what looked like [...]
Less than 24 hours to go…
48 Hours ’til Hawaii 2010
In 48 hours, Alicia and I will be on my way to Hawaii.
We keep watching videos and contemplating on actually going through with this this year (Mom- Don’t watch the video, because I know you’re going to freak out even more, haha):
The Waimea Rock is a 30-foot jump, by the way. In case you were wondering.

So for today, I will leave you with a video about a friend of a friend who was the first to document a great white in Hawaii. Oh, and he swims with it, too:
Depending on if my friend will be back in Hawaii to join us again, Alicia and I may or may not be doing the same. Only… we’d rather stay inside the cage.
Full Story »Octopus vs. Paparazzi
This makes me reconsider bringing an underwater camera with me on my oceanic adventures:
octopus steals my video camera and swims off with it (while it’s Recording) from Victor Huang on Vimeo.
while trying to get video of a wild octopus, it suddenly dashes towards me and rips my shiny new camera from out of my hands, then swims off, all while the camera is recording! he swam away very quickly like a naughty shoplifter. after a 5 minute chase, I placed my speargun underneath him and he quickly and curiously grabbed hold of the gun as well, giving me enough time to reach in and grab the camera from out of his mouth. I didn’t feel threatened at all during the [...]

Sappy Moments in Hawaii – May 2009
Yeahhhh, I know, I know. It took me forever to get this up, but ya know, I’ve been a busy gal, haha. Anyway, here’s the video:
Here’s some more random video footage from May 2009′s Hawaii trip smushed into 10 minutes (and 29 seconds).
Alicia, Elissa, Karri, and myself went out there for a week to celebrate my birthday and just get away from a lot of the craziness we were all dealing with. Coincidentally, our friends Phily and Alex were out there at the same time, as well.
Like a lot of the other Hawaii vids, there are a lot of inside jokes that nobody else is going to get…. so you’re basically watching another video of us being goofs. But hey, [...]
