Found this guy while swimming around Three Tables today:

Yesterday was my first day back to Hawaii in a year, it couldn’t have come at a better time, and I couldn’t be happier. There’s always a huge smile on my face as soon as the flight lands.

One of the first things we did as soon as we got back to the northern part of the island? Dive immediately into the ocean… where I pulled an “Elissa” (the first year we all went together) and injured myself. Could’ve been a lot worse, of course. It just stings and looks like I stepped on a small nail… But hey, it’s a small price to pay for beautiful experiences.

My friend offer to take me out to shark dive with him… in the open waters… ya know, without a cage… and I’m considering doing it. (So far, still considering, so Mom, don’t freak out yet.)

Should I risk it?

We made a new friend in Hawaii.

I finally had an ideal chance to play with my ND and polarizer filters… and capture some wonderful shots (like the one below) at the same time.

So originally we had a plan to go visit and photograph the Byodo-In Temple, but apparently you need to pay for a permit for that… soooo… we decided to go back to Shark’s Cove and snorkel again during high tide instead.

My oh my! This time, with the high tides, came LOTS of fish… EVERYWHERE. We spent a lot of time swimming around and following them, sometimes just floating and allowing them to surround us. There were a couple of creepy moments where currents formed and we got caught in them, but thankfully they weren’t strong enough to be too dangerous.

Oh, and at another point in time, I looked up and see a looooong shape in the distance– what looked like a five foot eel (or lochness monster), but fortunately turned out to be a five foot needlefish instead. Either way, we chose not to get TOO close, and eventually swam the other way just to be safe.

This is seriously one of our favorite spots to snorkel (if that hasn’t been made apparent yet), and for future travelers who go there, here’s a little tip we learned… There are these plants growing nearby (see picture below). Pick up a couple of leaves and crush them until they’re gooey… and wipe them on the inside of your goggles, then do a loose rinse. They work as a defogger!
