RIKETS June/July 2010 Tour

To all of you metalheads, if you didn’t already know, my boys in RIKETS are currently on tour in the States to support their sophomore release, All American Death Cult, which release on April 20th through Burnhill Union Records. The new dates also feature Mary Magdalan as a headliner, as well as Blue Felix.

Pandie Suicide (of the Suicide Girls) will also be making appearances at the events.

My boys starts off in Amarillo, Texas on the 4th earlier this month and are still in the process of adding dates. Here are the current dates for the tour that my ‘brother’ Scott sent over to me:

RIKETS was conceived in 2004, released its groundbreaking EP, Anything for the Devil, in 2006 and toured relentlessly in its support. RIKETS has shared the stage with some of rocks biggest acts and they prove true to form that there is no stopping this band of modern day road warriors. They have seen tour dates with Korn, Breaking Benjamin, Seether, Flyleaf, Nothingface, Scum of the Earth, Halestorm, and Buckcherry, as well as countless other acts.

RIKETS went on to record their first full length album between tours so they could “wear in” the new material live. Featuring five talented guys from the US- Scott (Vocals), Provo (Guitar), Nick (Guitar ), Michael (Bass) and Timmy (Drums). Scott Rose (vocals) uprooted the original All American Death Cult recording session from where they began in Dallas, TX and relocated them to Ben Schigel’s (SWITCHED) Strongsville, OH studio. Ben’s involvement in RIKETS runs deep “Ben has been there since day ONE. He’s a motivator, a mentor, a vocal trainer a great creative mind. I’ve been friends with Ben for years and SWITCHED was one of my favorite bands,” Scott explains. “Working with him over the years on RIKETS has been cool for both of us because we get to jam together.”

All American Death Cult’s industrial sound is anything but cold. Plaintive vocals betray deep emotion in tracks like ‘Sold Me Out.’ “Hollywood and I have a love/hate relationship – I love to hate her and she hates to love me,” explains Scott. “This song is my statement on this record. We have been through a lot and have come out the other side.” Lyrically, ‘Sold Me Out’ is double-talk – a parallel of a tumultuous relationship with a woman and a relationship with fame. “You were the first drink of wine and you broke me” refers to Rose’s first taste of fame and the bitterness he felt when his love of music had to take a back seat to sales and industry concerns, but could just as easily be about a romantic relationship gone bad.

Through all the hardship, RIKETS has prevailed. “If we didn’t see the fan base growing and the dedication of the kids (the tattoos they get of us, how they react to the shows), we would have packed it in,” says Rose. “We just know we have something here because of the fans. That and our love for the music is what drives us.”

New Brookroyal CD coming soon

So. Two of my really really good oldschool buddies back in St. Louis are in this great band called Brookroyal. I’ve only seen them live once (in this band, anyway), and they KILLED it in front of HUNDREDS of people. It was pretty phenomenal, if I may say so myself.

Anyway, they are playing Pointfest whatever-number-they’re-at-now later this month and will be releasing some new music which I, of course, am excited for.

If you have never heard their music before, please check them out on MySpace. You can purchase their debut Motives off of iTunes, as well!

Cry Little Sister – True Blood version

A lot of you already know the song (as you should!) without any sort of explanation. However, if you have been living under a rock since the 80s, “Cry Little Sister” was the theme song written by Gerard McMann [or G Tom Mac] for cult classic The Lost Boys. Since then, a handful of rock bands have covered it and G had released a variety of different remixes for all sorts of movies and shows.

Anyway, he has been working hard on yet another version, True Blood style… and just posted a little photo from it today!

Greetings from San Diego: SDCC ’09 Preview Night

Hello, hello!

So, apparently there is something wrong with my email on my G1 and it no longer wants to connect; so the entire time I thought I was tweeting photos from today… none of them went through.

Today was absolute madness. I’ve never been to preview night before, but I never imagined it’d be as packed as a typical Friday. We picked up our badges, ran into Jon [Rivera] and Nick [DeStefano], then headed inside to check things out a bit. At some point Spider texted me after filming a FEARnet piece and told me to head over to the G4 booth. From there we wandered a bit. Met back up with my other friends… and headed to the Activision party.

Can I just say… I am a big fan of free food, free drinks, AND demoing upcoming video games??

…And I just lost my train of thought. Really beat. Gonna head to bed. Big Disney 3D panel tomorrow, as well as Dexter. and the epic zombie walk. and the GWAR show. maybe the MySpace party.

Busy busy busy…

Confessions of a Workaholic

Comedian Jay Davis once told me that I was probably one of the hardest working girls he knew… and I’m not going to deny that. Everyone has their own addictions. For some, it’s drugs or alcohol. Sometimes it’s coffee and cigarettes. Sometimes it’s something completely different, like music. For me, it’s my work and all that I do. I am what most will call “a workaholic.”

I have had a lot of people in my life, especially lately, seem to not understand the concept of this. Those who don’t know me on a personal level will see a large selection of party pics on my MySpace and automatically make the assumption that I must be some wild, “life of the party” gal who goes out every night and “lives the life.” I do “live the life,” but not the life that the general public seems to think that I live.

I originally had this long blurb written and ready, but then I caught up on the blog of one of my favorite artists, Chad Michael Ward, and he had recently written this:

“BASIC MATH

Yesterday, I wrote this little mini rant on my Twitter/Facebook:

‘Dear Friends: If I do not answer your call/text it means I am BUSY, most likely with work stuff. I’m not mad at you, nor am I dead in a ditch. No need for the concerned 500 followup calls. My cell phone is not an electronic tether. Please do not treat it as such.’

What it comes down to is basic math: There are only 24 hours in any given day. No more no less.

“I have very ambitious goals in life. Unfortunately this means spending a lot of time alone in front of my computer.”

Being that I am self-employed, especially in this economy, means that I have to work 10 times harder than people with 9-5 day jobs. My day typically lasts 12-18 hours. In that time, I have actual physical work to do. When that work is done, I have to work on promoting/networking with potential future clients. When that’s done, I have to handle business items such as emails, invoices and mailings. Sometimes, if I’m lucky, I complete all those items before the end of the day. If that’s the case, then there are dozens of personal projects to attend to–script writing, photos and art for my book releases, gallery shows, etc. THEN, if there’s STILL a few hours left in the day (and this is rare), I have someone in my life that I like to spend time with–catch a movie, or dinner or sometimes just veg out on the couch with.

I try to make time for my friends, I really do. I value my relationships with them and the time we spend together. However, a lot of times I’m just not physically or mentally (or both) available to “hang out”.

I have very ambitious goals in life. Unfortunately this means spending a lot of time alone in front of my computer.

…and I couldn’t have said it better. I know exactly what he is going through because I have, especially lately, found myself in a similar boat with a handful of my friends and acquaintances.

I have friends getting upset because I don’t hang out as much. I have friends getting upset because I don’t always have the time to keep in touch as well as the rest of their friends. I have promoters not understanding that I don’t have the time to go out to their clubs every single night of the week. I don’t have time to go out and drink every night, and even if I did, I lived my “party days” when I first moved to L.A. in 2004. I am not that person anymore. I found my chance “to make shit really happen” and I took it.
